So can you believe this.. It's snowng outside today. I don't understand the seasons at all. I thought there was supposed to be flowers and birdies and bugs in the spring...but all I see when I look out the window is wet sleety snow.
Oh yeah, the topic...I was outside...on the ground...with my own feet...Twice
The first time was an accident. I was looking out the sliding screen door and my nose was kinda pushing against it and it snapped back. I was very startled and instead of jumping backwards I jumped forwards and before I knew it I was standing outside on the front step. The lady peep jumped up and caught me before I went further than behind a tree in the front yard.
Over the next few days I hatched a clever plot to go outside again. Naturally it would have worked better with an accomplice, but Marble is at his home with his peeps and Sam the Dog wouldn't get involved. Stoopid Dog. So this is what I did.
Every morning after I woke them up, I'd start hanging around the man peep's feet. I know the first thing he does (even before he really wakes up) is open the front door and bring in the newspaper... A perfect opportunity, I thought...but it didn't work out quite that way because I fogot that the first thing the lady peep does in the morning is feed me...Yup you guessed it, every morning my tummy won and I was headbutting the lady peep telling her to hurry up and pop the top on my breakfast can when the man peep was bringing in the paper.
So between eating and napping, I had to come up with another plan. This one had to be foolproof because I really wanted to go back outside and see what grass feels like between my toes. It looks so lovely and cool (and tasty too)
Often the peeps go outside and come back in a while later with lots of bags. They call it grocery shopping. They are often distracted and usually open and close the door several times when they're bringing in the packages. Perhaps I could sneak out when that was going on....
So last Saturday, out they went like always and when they came back I was ready to put my plan into action. I heard the sound of the key in the door and raced down the stairs to get into position. The lady peep opened the door and dropped two packages on the floor. I made a dash for the open door, and ran right into the first bag of groceries. Obviously she was quicker (smarter) than I thought. Just as I was getting to within a whisker of the great outdoors, she put this big barrier down in front of me. I sidestepped it then skidded to a stop (actually I got all tangled in the grocery bag). By that time I was distracted..Did I ever tell you that I love crawling into grocery bags...they make such fascinating crinkly noises. So yup, another opportunity wasted. The door closed and there I was - in the bag.
So how did I actually end up outside the 2nd time. Well...exactly the same way as the first time. The lady peep opened the door and pulled the screen door across so I could sit in the doorway and look outside and went downstairs to put the laundry in. A declicious looking bug bumped into the screen and got stuck there. I jumped up to bat it with my front hand and the screen door snapped back again. I jumped... sorta like this.
and wowie cowie, I was outside. And, because of the noise of the laundry room, the ladypeep hadn't heard the door snap. I was free...
I was outside...
I was scared...
I hurried back inside.
Imagine the lady peep's horror when she came back upstairs with the folded laundry and found the door open.
Needless to say, I got lots of hugs and kisses and now the latch on the door is much tighter. I can bump it all I want and it doesn't fly open any more.
PS Thanks to the folks at shelterlife.blogspot.com for the picture (It isn't really me), but it kinda looks like me.

Hi Eddy ::waves paw:: you shood talk yoor mom into getting you a harness and leash. I get to go outside every day! The younger brats, um, I mean cats, are trying to talk dad into a stroller so they can go for walks with mom. Did you know that mom is home alla time now? It's fun mostly, but sometimes I wish for the quiet days of yore.~Zippy
I think if I was allowed out I'd like to wear a cape so I could look like Supercat! But Mom is paranoid about us getting out so 'cept for a few times when we snuck out and she went berserk about it, we never go outside.
How much longer do you have to wait for Spring?! No one should still be looking at SNOW!

I love the way you look flying - it looks like fun! I've escaped a few times like you, but they're always right on my heels. Now they found my harness and leash again.
